Billericay Fun Day and Classic Car Show

news

As the sun rose so did the tents marquees and gazebos as a number of exhibitors set up their displays. Unlike most displays which were bright and stood out the Green Gazebo of Billericay Army Cadets was draped in Camouflage netting.

A team of seven cadets assembled under the supervision of SSI Davis and SI Ricks to man a stage where there was a static display of field cooking as well as information leaflets on the Cadets.

At 11:00 the day was opened by a parade of Classic cars in the main arena once the engine notes had died down the team of cadets entered the main arena to put on a drill display to wow the crowds with Cpl James Mears dressed in his very neat number 2’s belting out orders to the cadets.

Despite the heat the cadets worked hard all day to meet and great crowds with some cadets sweating it out in full combat order with webbing walking round the venue talking to the public and giving lessons in ‘Cam’ to many members of the public.

At half two the sun was high and once again the cadets entered the main arena. This time to give a full demonstration of Fieldcraft to waiting crowds. Cadets showed off walks and crawls and also used the P.A system to tell the many people gathered all about the camps and events that cadets get involved with.

After the crowds has dispersed the cadets took down there tent and went home for a need shower those wearing number 2’s or Full combat kit on such a hot day and certainly sweated well in the heat! But all had achieved a great deal in showing the public what cadet force is all about.
